“The Phantom of the Opera” the sequel!
Hi Everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve updated you guys as to what’s been going on in the theatre business around the world! But I’m back and with some exciting news for you especially all you “Phantom of the Opera” fans!
It has recently been announced that Andrew Lloyd Webber (the creator) has created a sequel to the world famous phenomenon. Yes, that’s right I said it. A SEQUEL! The musical is called “Love Never Dies”. The show was previously set to open at the West End’s Adelphi Theatre in late October or Early November of this year, has now been changed to March of 2010 in London.
The London cast will most likely to be led by Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess who both have previously played the title role and Christine in the London and Las Vegas shows. The creative team has also been announced and includes director Jack O’Brien, lyricist Glenn Slater, and choreography by Jerry Mitchell and musical supervision by Gareth Valentine.
The story of “Love Never Dies” begins in 1907 New York, with once again the mysterious ‘Maestro’ who runs the theatre at Coney Island announces a one-off concert legend by the name of Christine Daaé. Her arrival in New York with husband Raoul, Victome de Changy and their son Gustave, they run into the ‘Maestro’ bringing back destructive events of 10 years earlier at the Paris Opera and having it all come crashing it back into their lives.
If you have yet to see the musical whether live on stage or even the movie then you’re missing out! The story is very beautiful (not your average chick flick) and the music is simply amazing. Everything about this musical is what I expect plus more. Webber knows how to tell a love story and having it be interesting for both genders. I would recommend this show to any first time theatre go-er! So before the sequel raises it’s curtains next year, I recommend you see the movie with Gerard Butler as the Phantom himself and Emmy Rossum as the wonderful and talented Christine. Who knows you may fall in love with the music and characters just as much as I did when I saw it!
..Until then, Check back often for more updates in the Theatre World!
